  • Species-specific cultivation instructions

    Growing Instructions:

    • Sowing: Plant directly in place during February/March. Sow in furrows 50 cm apart, 5 cm deep, placing one seed every 10 cm and then cover.
    • Care: Earth up the plants when stems reach 30 cm. Regular hoeing and weeding are necessary. Consider pinching stems between the 5th and 7th flower clusters to deter aphids and encourage pod development.
    • Companion Planting: Thrives alongside corn, potatoes, celery, lettuce, and artichoke. Avoid proximity to bulb vegetables like onions, garlic, and shallots. Plant dill between rows to help deter aphids.

    Pest Management:

    • Mildew and Rust: Treat leaves showing grey mould or rust-colored blisters with Bordeaux mixture as needed. Spraying Nettle Purin on the soil before planting serves as a preventive measure.
    • Aphids: If preventive measures fail, consider using a Pyrethrum-based Anti-Aphid treatment.

Harvest: Collect the broad beans 3 to 4 months after sowing, enjoying a plentiful yield.
