Sowing, Transplanting and Harvesting Guide

    Latin name: Beta vulgaris cicla

    Life cycle: biennial

    Sowing period: February to September

    Harvest period: May to August

    Depth: equal to seed size

    Sowing technique: in a pocket, in open ground

    Rising temperature: 20 to 25°C

    Raising time: 7 to 10 days

    Spacing: 40 cm

    Watering: moderate / weekly

    Soil: humus

    Special feature: soaking the seeds in water for 24 hours facilitates germination

  • Species-specific cultivation instructions

    Sowing: Start under cover from February to March, or sow directly outdoors from April to September.

    Planting: Place 3 to 4 seeds every 40 cm along rows spaced 40 cm apart, in a sunny location.

    Watering: Maintain moist soil until emergence. Once established, thin to the strongest plant per spot and water frequently.

    Care Tips: Cardoons are sensitive to drought; mulching is advised during high heat to retain soil moisture.
